Gambaletto Winery & Extra Virgin Olive Oils, Istria, Croatia

4.5 (11 reviews) Spent < 1 hour Ranking #4 in Buje Wineries & Vineyards

True family vineyard!

This is the essential family winery! Where you feel like you are invading someone’s home to get to the tasting room! Super sweet family providing great wines in very small batches as well as olive oil. They have been hit by logistical issues thanks to Covid and didn’t have any bottles to sell but In a few weeks he seemed hopeful to have that fixed. Fingers crossed!

    Warm welcome and great wine
We were invited in and ended up chatting with Mr. Gambaletto as he poured us his two wines. Well worth the trip to sample his one man shop of wine and olive oil making.

    Pleasure and enjoy
Well recently I visited vine maker Gambaletto, after my return from China and upon checked the status of my wine cellar, where I paniclly realize that I am on a low level with my favorite drinks, and that's wine. The Gambaletto Cellar is located in the beautiful part of western Istra, below the small village of Krasica, which lies at the foot of Mount Činić. Gambaletto (or Ecio Činić) is a wine producer in the traditional way, or "as his grandfather did," which is a bit of a shadow today, when most winemakers use purchased yeast and well filter wine so that in indigenous varieties remains what remains . Than the aromatic additives are rather used, and at the opening of the bottle of particular wine, the guest "sniffs" all sorts of aromas (buke) that are practically made. Gambaletto breeds several of its autochthonous grape varieties, which are further processed by long lasting maceration, on the original yeast, and by the minimal addition of sulphite. This requires a lot of effort and attention throughout the process. But at the end you get really top quality autohthonous wine, at really acceptable price. This small producer also has olive plantations and produces virgin olive oil. If you want to enjoy the beautiful ambiente of Western Istra below Mount Činić and drink the old real taste of Malvazija, Teran or Merlot, you must truly see this cult and prospective winemaker whose time is coming. Nota bene, try Teran 2011. Zeljko
