interesting tour, nice, short hike
really enjoyed the boat tour (arrangements made through the Rock Harbor Lodge) to this lighthouse. there is a short (one mile?) but rugged hike to the lighthouse- which is fairly neglected- not well maintained like so many of the other lighthouses in this area) but the tour was well worth it anyway. the hike was gorgeous- as all the hikes on the Island are- and if you do not have your own boat, I highly recommend taking the opportunity that this tour offers.

Interesting historical lighthouse
The trip to the Rock Island Lighthouse requires a 2 hour boat ride from Rock Harbor. The boats run once a week. There is a 1 mile hike through a narrow path to get to the lighthouse. Wear long pants and long sleeve shirt as the trail is overgrown. The light house itself is explorable outside, but not maintained. You can jump in the lake below the lighthouse.
