Must-see when in Valletta

Beautiful cathedral, definitely a must-see when in Valletta. During the day its crowded and the line for entrance can be long, but if you don’t want to wait, just come a little bit later like we did. The entrance is allowed until 16:15h if I remember well. Also, don’t forget to visit Caravaggio’s section and take a look at a beautiful short movie about his life and the paintings.

    A Magnificiant Building
St John's Co-Cathedral is situated just inside the Valleta walls, on the right. For €15 euros, you get a multi-lingual audio guide; that matches the numbered displays. The Cathedral has a lovely mosaic floor of people's tombs. You are directed left around the outer edges of the nave. Each section that you enter, has a portrait of an important figure; with statues either side of it. The main altar has a purple ribbon adorning it, and sits at the top end of the church. Marbelled inlain statues surround the place, with art work across much of the ceiling. A giant crucifix, hangs in the corner also in inlain marble. You can also go up the tower, which has 50+ steps; if you're feeling energetic enough.

    Stunning Cathedral
Very busy, hard to avoid the crowds, but worth the patience to stroll and enjoy. Beautifully decorated and maintained. Quite the national treasure.
