Great Lewis & Clark interpretive center
The Sioux City Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center and the Betty Strong Encounter Center comprise an almost 20,000-square-foot, private, non-profit cultural complex, built and sustained by Missouri River Historical Development, Inc. (MRHD). The Interpretive Center opened in 2002 to commemorate the Lewis & Clark Bicentennial. It expanded in late 2007 with the opening of the adjoining Betty Strong Encounter Center to fulfill a permanent mission of "commemorating a history of encounters before, during and after the expedition. Joined by the symbolic Crossroads, these two parts create a Missouri Riverfront home for exhibits, programs and activities that explore how we live together as diverse people and how we care for our land, our great river, and other natural resources. Admission and programs are free.

Excellent Center-And It’s Free!
This was an excellent interpretive center for several reasons. We liked its focus on the life of those in the Corps of Discovery, and the displays about the connection to Sioux City. With the only death on the expedition occurring here, they of course focused on Sgt Floyd, but they gave a good explanation of many other things as well. There’s a good video, interactive displays, and we found ourselves staying for well over an hour. And thanks to the people of Sioux City, it’s provided free.

Must see attraction in Sioux City
Two museums in one building. The Interpretative Center includes several Disney like animatronic characters discussing the Lewis and Clark Expedition- the other part of the center includes art exhibits. Very friendly and helpful staff. Free entertainment ion Sunday afternoons. Free will offering admission. Beautiful grounds along the Missouri River with long recreational trail along the river.
