Awesome Truck Museum

The Iowa 80 Trucking Museum was a dream of Iowa 80 Truckstop founder Bill Moon. His love for trucks and the trucking industry laid the foundation for this museum. Over 100 vintage trucks are on display, as well as antique signs and gas pumps. The museum also features the REO Theatre where visitors can enjoy watching films about trucks and trucking.

    Awesome Trucking Museum
Needed a break while traveling between Chicago and Iowa City. I wasn’t initially planning to visit (or even aware of) this museum), but I saw an advertisement for it while at the World’s Largest Truck Stop. The museum is on a small hill located on the other side of the parking lot, so it was an easy walk to get there. Staff greeted me as I walked in the front lobby and gave me a quick rundown of the process and procedure of the place. Museum is very large with a wide collection of various trucks and some other truck-related paraphernalia. Nearly every truck has a sign that provides details about it. Information various a bit between the different vehicles, but the signs provide not only the make, model, and year of the truck but also a bit of history about them. I was impressed by just how much I learned in an hour or two as I walked through the building. I would recommend allocating at least 1-2 hours to walk through and view everything. Having said that, it can be a little overwhelming with there being so many trucks with a lot of details. Things did tend to blur a bit after an hour or so. On the positive side, admission to the museum is donation based. Well worth the visit, and I’m likely to stop by again and walk through the opposite way to view some of the trucks with fresh eyes and a clear head.

    Truckers Palace!
We are a trucking family with a 4 year old on board so we are always looking for fun things to go do near the places that we stop. I had read about Iowa 80 online before but did not intentionally stop, we actually stopped at the pilot across from it for gas and to hop right back on hwy. Saw the big signs when we were pulling in so we got our gas and went over, ended up spending 7+ hours here! From the trucking museum (which is free somehow, please donate or purchase some of their merchandise to support), the buffet, the shops, every truck accessory you could possibly think of. We will definitely be back :)
