Amazing grassland experience

Vast grassland on gentle rolling hillocks stretching as far as eyes can see, pristine rivers snaking through virgin coniferous forest, unparalleled starry night sky, this trip had it all. We were a group of friends (6), and went around the northern region of Hulunbuir for 7 days. We hired a driver who doubled as the guide. We went during mid-June, the temperature was around 16-30 degrees, which was quite bearable. Unfortunately the flowers were not in full bloom, we were told that the flowers will cover entire hill slopes later in the season. Although the mosquitoes were still not in full force, all of us still got bitten. Our journey brought us to within 2 stone throws away from Russia (I tried, stone did not make it across the border river), and also the Mo'erdaoga, where the guide treated us to his personal stash of alcohol (Mo Mao). We also tried horse-riding and visited an elk farm. The guide was very friendly and knowledgeable about the entire tour area. We were eating at similar price to locals thanks to him, and our accommodation every night is very affordable. A special mention to the lamb in Hulunbuir, where there is absolutely no foul smell that some people disliked. It was a fantastic experience and one can adjust the comfort level according to your own budget.

A unique travelling experience on the grassland of Hulun Buir Prairie
In early July my friend and I hired a driver and his taxi and traveled for five days on Hulun Buir Prairie from Hailar to Linjiang, a village bordering with Russia, to Manzhouli and back to Hailar. The driver was very helpful and polite. He was also our tour guide and helped arranging our accommodation at all the places we stayed. We are very happy to recommend him to anyone who wants to hire a driver there. Hiring a private car meant we could choose where we wanted to go and how long we liked to stay at a place. It was unusually hot during the five days so we started travelling most days from 6 o'clock in the morning as the sun rises from around 3 in the morning. We rested around midday till 4 in the afternoon and went out sight seeing till 8 or 9. The sun sets after 9 pm. In the morning and evening sun the green rolling hills, blooming rapeseed fields and wheat fields just looked serene. We drove past those commercialized horse-riding and costume hiring stations along the high ways. We stopped at places where we saw lots of wild flowers, herds of cattle, sheep and horses. The scenery was magnificent whichever direction we looked. We stayed overnight at Enhe, Linjiang and Manzhouli. Enhe was very commercialized for tourists. Manzhouli is just another Chinese hustling and bustling city with slightly different architecture. Linjiang is a quiet and pretty village surrounded by beautiful landscapes. The best scenes were on the roads we traveled.
