The Gentle Giant of Alton
What a great tribute to a local celebrity. Robert Wadlow was 8' 11" tall. A sculptor treated Wadlow with respect and personality. During his short life (22 years), Wadlow toured with the Ringling Brothers Circus in the center ring, never in the side show.

Mind blowing
Small park, totally free. The worlds tallest man was 8ft. 11in. Stand next to his life size statue and place your foot next to his. There is a chair there built for his size. Sit in it and see if your feet get anywhere close to the ground.

Big Man; Big Chair
This statue is such a trip. You always hear about Wadlow in the Guinness Book of World Records, but it's hard to fathom just how tall he was until you stand next to him (and sit in the replica of his chair). Parking is on a fairly busy street, but there's a lighted crosswalk. Definitely recommend visiting Robert if you're in Alton.
