A day trip in Lake Forest at the animal discovery center

We had a great time here in July of 2017. The staff was kind and helpful and informative! They treated both the animals and Humans with great care. We got to see them feeding Bob the Bob Kit and Arty the armadillo. My daughter and I went there as a day trip while in town for her husband’s Navy graduation. She was pregnant at the time with her first child we had to walk a ways on the paths but, it was worth it. We had a good time and got up real close to all the animals. It was kept clean and we were able to see the reptiles in the amphibians and quite a few more things!

"A place where you can (hopefully soon) be with nature eye-to-eye!"
This living natural history museum is following government guidelines and is closed until April 30. Check the Lake Forest Parks and Recreation page for updates. Meanwhile, after the closing on March 13, the Center used its Facebook page to offer a "meet the staff" series. Starting March 21, the curator, Rob Carmichael and other staff began an ongoing series of educational and entertaining videos with Facebook Live episodes. Colouring pages are also being posted. As someone who grew up with Marlin Perkins and Wild Kingdom, I am delighted by these family-friendly activities and encourage you to take advantage of them until the WDC re-opens. Parks and Rec has set up a virtual recreation center that is could be a model for other communities. Follow the links on their website for a well-chosen collection of resources under the categories of "Stay Active," "Keep Learning," "Be Informed," and "Feel Connected". See my earlier reviews (December 26, 2019; June 14, 2019; June 2, 2018; September 2, 2016: and October 14, 2013) for more details.

    Beautiful area
The animals appear to be well cared for, and the exhibits are clean. The employees were friendly and knowledgeable. We enjoyed watching the otter swim and play. We thought the architecture of the buildings was interesting and beautiful. We thought that there should be more signs on the cages that would identify the species.
