Serene Getaway

Lovely gem in Crystal Lake. A quiet place to hike and enjoy nature. The Nature Center has a variety of exhibits that always fascinated my grandchild. Pack a lunch, bring a book and relax for a bit.

    Wonderful Park Year Round!
We started going to this park when our 40 plus year old kids were young. We took beautiful family photos there, with the wonderful landscaping every where we turned! Summers were for picnicking, baseball playing on the diamond, long nature walks, and of course the great playground area. The "nature center" used to be used for grade school field trips where kids learned so much about nature, taught by volunteers. Now that facility is opened to the public as a small museum with much history about animals and nature living at the park. The grounds have been kept up very nicely over the years, with fun additions here and there, including a sprinkler for the younger kids to play under, automatically turned on for a hot summer day! Winters were also like a beautiful painted, winter wonderland at Veteran Acres! Our kids used to sled down the hills for so much fun, but not sure if that's still allowed. Occasionally, hubby and I will still stop by and go for a stroll through the peaceful grounds that hold many family memories for us. If you still have children and want them to learn a few things about nature, this is the place to go to, not once, but many times during their childhood! And remember, you're never too old to enjoy some fresh air here!

Nice place with lots of wild life
A nice place to walk with a lot of trails. We saw seven deer the last time we went. I've also seen cranes here a couple of times before. There are quite a few long trails in the woods behind the baseball diamond as well as a smaller round trail around a pond.
