Urbana Public Library, Illinois, United States

Great family library

I visit this library with my son on a fairly regular basis. The entire bottom level of the building is the children's library, and it is extensive with books, music and videos. There are interactive play areas for the kids and a few cute book nooks for reading. If you are planning to go check the library calendar for current events as there are often child-friendly performances and story hours. My only pet peeve is that you must pay to park, but that is everywhere in Champaign-Urbana.

i donated a book called, Managing Mississippi and Ohio River Landscapes
I attempted to provide my book to the University of Illinois main library, the Champaign Library and the Urbana Public library. The Urbana Public library was by far the best to deal with. At the University of Illinois main library they told me that once I gave the book to them it was theirs to decide it fate. They could sell it, put in in the stacks or trash it. I keep my book. They I went to undergraduate library and they referred me to the ACES Ag. library which took the book. Champaign Library also made it hard to donate a new book but eventually they accepted. This was not the case with the Urbana Library which took the book immediately and has made it available to readers. After taking 8 years to collect the data and 2 years to write the book it is nice when a Library shows an interest in your work and does not include the option of it being discarded. Having worked for the University of Illinois for more than 30 years it was really disappointing who the library system handles book contributions. They would not even offer to make it back in campus mail if it did not put it in their library stacks. The decision was not made by staff, a call was made to supervisor and she said it was there policy. Seems to me the University of Illinois main library need to revise their policy. Urbana public library policy would be a good start.
