It's a mall in a somewhat small town.
This mall is pretty much exactly what you'd expect for a town the size of Carbondale. The stores are still open (mostly). There's a Gloria Jean's inside in you want a coffee, and you can go clothing shopping. You won't find all of the typical mall stores inside, but there are a few (Old Navy, JC Penney, Macy's, Hot Topic, Maurices, Journey's, Victoria's Secret, Buckle... a few more as well). I'm a big fan of Old Navy's activewear, so I tend to stop by the University Mall about once a month. The facility, including the bathrooms, is kept clean. It's somewhat quiet. If it's a cold day, and you want to go for a walk, you probably won't be the only one there walking the halls for a little exercise. You can walk around and/or buy stuff. Like I said... it's a mall.

University Mall
We were in the Shawnee National Forest area about 15 miles south of Carbondale. We had some time to kill one day so we drove to this mall to walk around. Unfortunately, like so many other malls in the country, it was kind of desolate. Many stores were closed, there was very little foot traffic, and no places to eat.

Boring !!!!
I was on vacation visiting family and we decided to go to the mall. This is a sad little mall. If you are use to shopping in a big city mall you will be sadly disappointed. Not very much activity in the mall and the stores are sub par. For this area the mall is okay. Not very many choices in southern Illinois. If you are shopping in the area go to Wal-mart and Kohl's for better choices.
