GREAT local distillery with a worthwhile tour
I've been to my share of distillery/winery/brewhouse tours. The Stumpy's tour was a pleasure from the moment my group of eight walked in. The staff was genuine and friendly, the tasting/retail space was well organized and spotless. They have a great story to tell and they tell it enthusiastically. The young women that handled the tasting and facility tour did a truly exceptional job and were readily able to handle all off-script questions. Had a chance to meet Adam, the owner, and it's clear he cares about his business, it intimately involved and has a growth vision. This is not Woodford or Buffalo Trace or, certainly Jack. However, it's just as well run and the family/local/independent feel is apparent. This is local and easily accessible for me. It's worth a detour out of your way if it's not for you. I haven't even gotten to the bourbon, gin and vodka - all of which were well executed and delicious.

Great craft distillery experience
Went with a group of couples to Stumpy's and had a fantastic time! Staff was knowledgeable, fun and the tour was interesting, particularly the discussion of the repurposing of old distillery equipment. Spirits tasting was just as great! You can tell the pride the owners and staff have in this place and their products. Would highly recommend for anyone that has an appreciation for what goes into your drinks!

Wonderful craft distillery
This is a small building in the middle of what was an alfafa field until a couple of years ago. We went for a tour, which started with a tasting of the vodka and bourbon products produced here. The tasting portion ends with each person receiving a cocktail in their Stumpy's souvenir glass, which we carried into the still while we were shown around for a most interesting and informative tour. The owner, Adam Stumpf and his wife are the entire crew, with a little help from his brother and other family members when needed. This started with a small still used for personal distilling, a business plan developed for an entrepreneurship class at Wash U St Louis, and a dream. The still now is a bit larger, the business was started 2 years ago. They grow their own grains on their property, and the water comes from an aquifer that is also on their land. They limit production so as not to abuse their water supply. The result is some smooth vodka, fine tasting bourbon and several great tasting liquers. We each picked up a couple of bottles, and I look forward to seeing this brand on east coast shelves when they grow to that point. If you are in their area for a visit, it should be one of your stops.
