This Museum is about people's Lives
The Spurlock presents it's collection with the intent to present the whole-life experience of people from a specific culture. It happily mixes currency displays with clothing, games, and sculpture from a specific cultural group. This will confuse you if you are expecting to discuss the artistic merits of a particular painting or sculpture. I love knowing what kind of clothing was worn by the people who produced this particular sculpture, so I love the scope of this museum. The collection is ecclectic - for example they have a mould of the frieze around the accropolis that was done before it was defaced by gunfire (in the Greek and Roman antiquties section). They also have the best exhibit I've ever seen explaining how our alphebet developed (in the middle east section). There are five main galleries. I can absorb about one in a day and spend about two hours doing it. More than that and I get overloaded.

    Three Functions
First, it is a museum of world cultures; second, it has a lecture hall for public lectures and films/movies; third, often in conjunction with the second function, it provides a venue for receptions.
