Spring Strolling

can't believe that we have lived in the north shore for over 20 years and we had never been here! What a gem! We came here with our son and future daughter-in-law for walk on a very cool, very early spring day. Parking was a bit difficult as they had a maple syrup tapping event going on and they closed off parking spots in order to keep the number of people there at time low, due to the pandemic. They have a number of paths through the woods to walk. None of them are particularly long and definitely not arduous. It was very pleasant strolling along and chatting. We ran into one of people that works there and he was very willing to answer our questions and pointed us in the direction of the newly tapped trees. There is a small section were they have some of the local fauna on display. We enjoyed our meander through there too. Great place for young and old alike!

    closed until May 11
Buildings, bathrooms (indoor and portable), grounds, and trails are currently closed. They hope to reopen May 11, but it will be best to check the Cook County Forest Preserves website before coming out. Don't be misled by any activity you may see -- employees come daily to care for the animals, but the Center is totally closed to the public. See my July 30, 2018 review for details about this attraction.

Great to teach kids about local animals.
They have a large interactive center where young can touch things and a small outdoor zoo with local animals you can get close to. There are also numerous events that are fun to attend. Maple syrup festival (they tap their own trees and serve pancakes) Honey festival (they have active bee hives) and other things as well. If you have kids ya gotta go.
