    Beautiful old mansion
I was not familiar with the Driehaus Museum but it is a somewhat newer museum. My son found they were having an exhibit about Richard Nickel and his efforts to document the work of Louis Sullivan before buildings were demolished. The mansion has been restored and has many original and period pieces. We looked thru the exhibit on our own and also took the public tour spending 2 hours in the museum. The first floor is primarily about the home. The second floor bedrooms are not furnished but are used for the exhibit space. You can still admire all of the fireplaces upstairs. Entry price was $20 for adults and my daughter in grad school was $10. Some reviewers complain about the cost but look at what you are seeing and helping to preserve. This mansion is in downtown Chicago. A home would not be built like this today. The woodwork and craftsmanship is incredible. The satinwood in one room can no longer be obtained. The center hall on all 3 floors is all marble (walls, floor, ceiling) including the staircase. The tour guide did a nice job.

Gilded Age house museum is a stunning example of splendor and beauty!!
This was our second visit to the Driehaus Museum when visiting Chicago. This house museum is amazing! From the moment you enter the house and into the marble entrance hall, you will be mesmerized! We wandered through each and every room in the house to enjoy the Gilded Age splendour....the fireplaces, the ceilings, the decor, the library/gallery, and the glass ceiling dome. On our first visit, we enjoyed a special Tiffany exhibition of pieces collected by Mr. Driehaus. Note that there are always Tiffany pieces to be seen throughout the house. On this visit we saw the Capturing Louis Sullivan: What Richard Nickel Saw exhibit, and it was worth making the time to see. So interesting!! Our first visit was at Christmas; if you enjoy the Christmas holidays, a visit is in order!
