Good value

This museum is a "must-see" when in Quincy Illinois. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The first floor is restored with original and period furnishings. The second and third floors are both museums dedicated to Quincy's history.

Afternoon with my grandson 7 yrs old
Saturday afternoon and my wife and granddaughter were going shopping not the guy thing so I decided to take him to the museum. It's on 16th Maine street easy to find if your from out of town. Naturally he loved the dinosaur exhibits. He took an interest in the native American room, I even took a picture of him by the tent. We stayed quite a while we had a great time. The staff was friendly and considerate.

    Mansion of many incarnations
Maine Street in Quincy is lined with HUGE mansions from a by-gone era, and this one, after serving as a private residence, a nuns' residence, a college residence among others I think, it is now a museum. The first and second floors are retained in the original era - top of the line stuff for the turn of the century such as gas AND electric lighting. The woodwork, the many rooms and the kitchen all have very interesting history and usage. The third floor which I suppose was all bedrooms in the past, is now a natural museum of sorts - seems to be aimed to children, and seems a little odd for placement there. But the grounds, being a block wide with the amazing interior features of what the local rich and famous had back in the day, it's a fine introduction to old Quincy. Hours are fairly short. Staffed by volunteers, I believe that give the tours and explain the first floor at least.
