Paying our respects to family... Beautiful place.

This is a beautiful place that was empty on the day we visited. We were greeted by a caretaker at the entrance and a computerized list aided in finding our family members. The stained glass art windows are amazing. They go on and on in each alcove and named space. There are carvings and statues and every nook and cranny makes this worth a visit if you are in appreciation of Christian and Catholic religious art. There are several levels and an elevator. Please remember that this is also a sacred space so please maintain the dignity of the building and use by a quiet walk through should you chose to visit. A local family member gave us a warning that the isolation has led to problems there but looking at the parking lot, being aware of our surroundings and checking in at the entrance gave us no misgivings.

My whole family is interred there.
It is tasteful and well maintained. The grounds are parklike. It is in Hillside , which is reachable from many suburbs. A peaceful pretty place to visit

    The Neighbors are Very Quiet...
Been coming here since 1958 to "see" my father...Beautiful place but often the chapel is locked and the smaller, wing office, empty. That said, it's not a bit scary. Each room has a saint and their life story, a kneeler, relics in the halls, long friezes and mosaics, marble of all types and words etched in the stained glass to lift you up. Definitely old school Catholicism. Each level is dedicated to a different era. Well worth the long walk through the whole place. It is quiet though -- when I was a kid, there was music playing softly and often the smell of incense. The furniture could use an update, too. Like any mausoleum it will either creep you out or lead you towards the spiritual feeling you seek. For me it's always been the latter. I live nearby and am there frequently. The grounds are undergoing some expansion but the mausoleum looks like it always did. More staff indoors and an unlocked chapel on the weekends would be good though.
