We live close enough to the park to visit it frequently. There are some really good hiking trails so I'm not hesitant to take the kids. Beautiful park that is well run. Great fishing holes found throughout the park. No play area for the kids but plenty of picnic areas.

    Favorite Fishing Spots!
Pyramid State Park is a real hidden gem. The largest state park in Illinois at over 19,000 acres, Pyramid State Recreation Area (the correct name) has it all - fishing, hunting, hiking, camping, dog field trials, and wildlife spotting. Seldom any crowds to deter one from finding some solitude, especially for canoers and kayakers who want to get away from it all. Pyramid is my favorite fishing area. It features scores of old flooded strip mines that have been flooded and stocked with all sorts of game fish including bass, crappie, bluegill, catfish, and in some areas walleye, Muskie, and smallmouth. Several lakes have excellent boat ramps and parking areas. The largest - Super Lake - is over a mile long and in spots nearly 100’ deep. A recent road paving project makes these lakes even more accessible. There are no longer size limits on boat motors, but all lakes are considered to be no-wake zones. My experience has been that boaters have been very good about respecting that. Folks, if you’re looking for a varied outdoor experience where there’s something for everyone, give Pyramid a try. You’ll be very impressed!
