Great Riding North of St. Louis
I called on a Saturday morning and was able to make reservations for a 1pm ride. They said to be there at 12:45 (45 min early), which was no problem except I got lost trying to find it. Do not trust Apple iPhone maps to navigate you to “Pere Marquette Riding Stables”! It leads you up into the hills of the state park in the middle of nowhere. Trust the physical street address on the “Contact” section of their website. That said, our 1pm ride actually left at 12:30, which made no sense to me at all. Figured I’d still be 30 minutes early, but everybody was already saddled up and ready to go. The horses are great, the trails are beautiful…lots of shade and trees, hills, ravines, and little creeks that you cross. The front of our group saw deer but I was near the rear and missed them. I want to come back in the fall when the leaves change colors. Prices are steep for a 45 min ride, but if you’re military they offer midweek discounts.

Beautiful trail ride
Wonderful wonderful experience! It was myself and 5 kids ranging in age from 11-16. Our guide Kelly was talktive and informative. Beautiful trail ride. We were the only group to have a ride scheduled for the day so were very very thankful that Kelly and her son were willing to come in and saddle up all the horse just so we could enjoy our 45 minute ride. Highly Recommend!

Disappointing at best
My nephew and his wife were visiting from CA and wanted to go riding so I took them to Pere Marquette Stables near Grafton, IL. We were very excited to get to ride together but it soon went downhill with our trail guide, Kelly. She took all of the fun out of it with her constant nagging, bossy attitude while she rode entirely inappropriately while texting on her phone. Won't be going back there to ride ... ever. Oh, and there are no pictures to share because we were forbidden to have our cell phones out during the ride.
