Amazing views of the solar system!

This is super fun. We went on a Saturday night and were able to look through the big telescope and see Saturn - rings and all! You have to walk through the golf course at night, so take a flashlight and make sure you have some easy walking shoes! It's not very accessible, as you walk through the grass to get to the observatory and it's a good little hike from the parking lot. Free, but they take donations.

    Friendly Fun Informative
The visit was great and the person giving the showing of planets and various satillites was very professional and had an excellent way about him and made it all the more enjoyable. If you know nothing of the stars and planets in the sky I very much recommend this. It is fun for all ages and awe inspiring to look at planets so far away!

Does YOUR local park provide the opportunity to gaze at the planets on a summer's night?
A piece of Americana... Lining up in an observatory, with families around you, waiting for the night to be dark enough to look at planets. This is a simple pleasure in complex times. You just drive over, park your car and walk about 100 yards. Looking at the planets through what I think is the largest telescope outside of Adler Planetarium (don't quote me on this) is a reminder that earth is just a tiny part of a much bigger galaxy. Plan to visit after twilight, watch fireflies, recognize the enormity of the universe, and then go out for ice cream. We visit the observatory twice a year. It's just two blocks from our house. Heck, you can start with the Observatory and then head out for a night downtown. The entire experience is an hour, at most.
