Very serene place. There are no markers for individual graves, but there is a stone monument with the names of all who are buried there.

Peaceful
A stop for history buffs. Go to the Alton prison first to get an idea of who is buried there and how the monument came to be. It is a peaceful plot, individual graves are not marked but you are aware that under the sloping grounds lie the remains of Confederate soldiers who died while in prison. A thoughtful place.

Peaceful Cemetery with a Single Obelisk Monument
While in town for my high school reunion, I just had to drive past this cemetery again, to show my wife one of my boyhood memory-sites. I recall taking field trips there while in grade school/scouts. The cemetery is small, and the obelisk with names of deceased prisoners of the Confederacy are provided at the base. This was a "common burial ground" for those soldiers of the Confederacy who perished during the Civil War in the hell-hole that was the Alton Prison. Smallpox and detrimental living conditions were the causes of the deaths.
