Great indoor activity on rainy days and outdoor activity on sunny days
Museum Building: very large space displaying interesting historical story, displays and materials from Rockford's (America's) industrial era growth. I've walked through several times and always find something new and interesting. I also participated in fun family Sock Monkey event, where everyone got to build their own Sock Monkey - indigenous to Rockford area, home of the first seamless heel sock machine. Historical Village: An interesting and educational stroll on a pleasant day. Historical buildings create a town from olden days. Buildings are stocked with merchandise from the day. Engaging tours provide interesting historical facts. Sometimes they are staffed with characters performing typical functions - like Blacksmith. (Not all buildings are open for touring every day.) Plentiful free parking. LZ Peace Memorial Walking/Biking Trail (next to Midway): Easy level paved path through trees and field. Convenient free parking. Connects with Perryville Trail. Special Events: WWI, WWII, Oregon Trail re-enactments, along with many other family, singles and couples activities, including evening 21+ events.

    History at it's best!
This was a wonderful experience. The museum is wonderful, not too large, and I learned some new things! We then went on the tour of the Historical Village, and we had the best Guide ever. Ed - was truly great. He told us about the houses, those that were original and moved to the property, and those that were reproductions. Explained the Victorian era - and while we were not able to go into all of the buildings (due to COVID) those that we could go into were fascinating. Since I have a respiratory auto immune disease, I was in a transport wheelchair that wouldn't work well on the gravel roads, but our Guide ED saw me and went to the main office and got me a special wheelchair that has wheels like the machines they put on the moon to take pictures (those triangle belt wheels). It was a wonderful experience. So glad we chose that place for our "DAY TRIP"
