The Confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers
This site is a short 20 minute drive northeast of St. Louis and it is a interesting look at the begining of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The visitor center is good; I highly recommend that you drive/bike/walk out on the Lewis and Clark trail to the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers. The view is great!

    A very informative museum.
This is where the Lewis and Clark Expedition began, near the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers. This modern building contains a lot of information about Camp Dubois, where the Corps of Discovery wintered prior to beginning their journey up the Missouri. There is a large exhibit space, and the exhibits help to understand the recruitment process, the methods of building Camp Dubois and the boats, and the logistics of making this mission work. Plus, the participants in the Corps are named and what history is known about them. The journey itself is also reviewed. Overall, very good! The 3 staff members we met were all very nice and highly informative. Th gift shop ("The Store of Discovery"!) was nice as well. There is a road on the property you can take to see the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi rivers, worth a quick stop. The only negative is Camp Dubois itself. The precise location of the original camp is unknown, but they built a facsimile of the original camp years ago. Sadly, this has deteriorated and has been condemned. That is a real shame. The grounds ARE nice, with picnic benches and such. Definitely worth a visit.
