This is a wonderful history stop not far off the road. This location is the first blast furnace in Illinois and the information kiosks are helpful.

Interesting for a quick stop
Interesting but not much to see after the furnace and displays, this is an interesting part of the Shawnee area, for sure. Quick stop.

Another piece of Shawnee history
Another great stop in the Shawnee National Forest area. This was a quick stop for us, but glad we made it. So much history in the area, including this. If memory serves me, there's a picnic table or two there if you want to stop and enjoy a few minutes of down time. We even found an old service road and took a walk thru the woods to get a geocache and ended up down by the creek and saw lots of wildflowers.
