Wow!

The Mission of the Illinois Rural Heritage Museum is to educate the public about the rural heritage of Illinois in a manner that tells the life lessons of success. The Museum explains the ever changing story of rural life from different perspectives: agriculture, business, conservation, education, medicine, natural resources, technology and transportation. A critical element of the Museum’s Mission is to preserve and restore important items that would otherwise be lost with the passage of time.

    Treasure close to home
We only live 20 miles away but hadn’t been there until yesterday. Was wonderful! It’s very neat and organized. Mary and Charlie were great, very knowledgeable. It’s great to see people have given and loaned these treasures to be shared and remember rather than deteriorate in attics. Pass the word a must see!

    Great place for history buffs
Stopped in here today with my family. Even though we lived in this town our whole life, there is so much more to learn about farming and life in the early 1900s then we ever could have known! Charlie and Mary Greer (the directors) are quite enthusiastic and super nice. Very informative and know Pickneyville and the history of southern Illinois in depth. They even took us on a private tour of the place! There are 3 warehouses full of exhibits and artifacts from country and farming life in Picnkneyville from about 1900 onward. There is lots of old Thresherman equipment and carriages on loan from different people, so it is quite interesting to see. Very neat and organized. You could spend hours here. We will definitely be back to see this location again!
