    Loved this Place!
This is a small, cozy, and very friendly little winery set in a beautiful remote country area. Their grapes are all estate grown and they are producing some really great wines. We went with friends and enjoyed all the wines we tasted, we ordered a bottle of "the other side" dry red and sat outside on the deck overlooking the vineyards and had a wonderful time. Also picked up a couple bottles to take home.

Our FAVORITE along the wine trail
It's funny how different reviews can be; after researching ALL of the area vineyards before our recent anniversary trip to Southern Illinois, and after visiting some of them on prior trips, I knew what I wanted and what I didn't. What I wanted was charming and unassuming, something non-commercial. I'm not a person who enjoys ultra-polished establishments in any way. I like someone who is serious about what they do, who doesn't feel the need to schmooze with the customers, who lets their product and surroundings speak for themselves. So, my husband and I pulled up along the scenic lane to Hickory Ridge Vineyard on a late Sunday afternoon, just about an hour and a half before closing, and some local musicians were playing the most lovely music on the wisteria-covered deck overlooking the most beautiful vineyards and forest with the Shawnee hills in the background and I was immediately smitten! The young man who handled our tasting was quietly unassuming ("chill" if you will) and we chatted for a while about vinyl records, the history of the vineyard, and their wines of course. We are generally only dry red drinkers and their Norton knocked our socks off, though ALL of their wines were very much to our preference. We spent the next hour on the covered deck, listening to the musicians, chatting a bit with the locals, before heading back in to buy some bottles to go and to chat some more. One of the local musicians came in and I had a lovely conversation with her as well. The entire experience couldn't have been better and warms my heart now just to think of it. Hickory Ridge is everything I LOVE in a vineyard. I hope they never change. Respect for family, the land, the craft of the vine, is what a vineyard/winery should be. Can't wait to return here!
