Golden Eagle Ferry, Illinois, United States
4.5 (10 reviews) Spent Ranking #1 in Golden Eagle Ferries
Mississippi River Adventure
What an experience! A little ferry which holds, maybe, nine vehicles, takes you from Gold Eagle in St. Charles County, MO to beautiful rural Calhoun County north of Grafton and Alton, IL. A second ferry, the free Brussels Ferry, takes you across the Illinois River to Route 100, the Great River Road, on the Illinois side. Very peaceful, lots of egrets, herons, and other birds visible from the ferry. $9 for a passenger car.

Double The Fun
When you plan an outing for a ferry river crossing, don’t forget that there are two ferries, the Golden Eagle Ferry and the Brussels Ferry. Your GPS will help you plan your trip. It’s fun to watch the operation of these ferries. The tug boat operator clearly knows what he is doing.

A Great Experience
My wife and I have taken the Brussels Ferry to and from Pere Marquette Lodge and the Wittmond Hotel Restaurant many times. On our most recent trip we decided to drive back from lunch at the Wittmond Hotel Restaurant to our home in Tulsa, Oklahoma. After a great and huge lunch at the Wittmond, we drove South to the Golden Eagle Ferry. The Golden Eagle crosses the Mississippi River which is much wider and has a much faster current than the short stretch of the Brussels Ferry crossing of the Illinois River. It was a great ride across the Mississippi River. My wife and I both marveled at the exceptional talent of our "Riverboat Captain." Perfect trip and truly a great experience!
