Great Muffler Man Example!
The Gemini Giant is a notable example of what are called Muffler Men. Over twenty feet in height, muffler men were once plentiful across the American landscape from the late 1950s to the early '60s as roadside icons for automotive muffler shops. Early on, some owners of these figures personalized them by customizing their clothing or even their facial features. In the case of the Gemini Giant, the oversized muffler held in the figure's hands was replaced by something else. Today, he holds a model rocket.

Great stop if you're interested in 1960s "muffler men"
If you are into these giant "muffler men" from the 1960s, the Gemini Giant outside the Launching Pad Drive In is worth a stop. They were all made from the same mold--look at their hands, all positioned in the same way to grasp something. This one was augmented by a space helmet and rocket, making it one of the more fun muffler men still around.

Photo Op on 66
Stopping at the Gemini Giant was just a photo op and the Launching Pad is currently closed due to the virus. It was a cool stop though. It was dark, so the statue was lit up and I was able to park my car in front of it for a picture. The restaurant itself has some nice Route 66 stuff displayed around it and the neon looks great. I actually though someone was there because they have a mannequin in the drive-thru window!
