Loved Every Bite!

My wife is from the "East Side" of Chicago, and Gayety's was a staple of their family for special occasions...including the special days of, "let's stop by Gayety's today!" Gayety's was first opened in February of 1920...so, this is their 101st Anniversary! They closed for a short period last year, but it was purchased by some of their previous employees. They have since reopened in Lansing, Illinois fairly close to their original location in South Chicago. My wife's family, my wife, and I are very happy. New life for Gayety means new ideas for their new and improved menu! The "All New Gayety" is great! I personally think the new Gayety has a very festive feel and that their products have actually been improved. I look forward to my hollow chocolate bunny coming again this Easter. The family tradition lives on!

    Gayety's is very special
Gayetys and I go back a long time. When i was growing up in the 60's my mother used to take us kids to the original Gayetys in South Chicago where we would happily enjoy the big fresh fruit banana splits topped with real whipped cream and almonds. We could see the soda jerks hand cutting strawberries, cantaloupes, bananas, cherries to make that fruit topping, all under the twinkling eye of the formidable Papa George. We didn't have much money then, but on occasion we would also splurge on Papa Georges' chocolate confections. O n Halloween, all of the kids in the area would make sure to trick or treat at Gayety's where Papa George would hand out crinkly white bags filled with peanuts covered with his delicious butter toffee. The old Gayety's closed, i moved away from the neighborhood and Gayety's became for me one of those wonderful things of childhood that often melt away into sweet memory. Thirty years later I heard that there was a Gayety's ice cream parlour in Lansing. I drove down from my middle-aged land of yuppiedom on the North side of Chicago. I ordered the banana split with the fruit, whipped cream and almonds. It tasted EXACTLY the same. I closed my eyes and I was no longer a middle-aged uptight yuppie professional. I was 8 years old and I'd come back home.

    Awesome ice cream
We went there on a Friday it was just amazing. It’s so GOOD!!!! We had a Gayteys special and I was thinking it may be taste a little different because they closed down for awhile although it was just great maybe even better. They have different items on the menu which makes some items affordable than others which they didn’t have before. I’m glad they only opened in Lansing because the other Gaytey’s weren’t the same and slow. Lansing is a good place to have it.
