The most impressive fact about this park is that it used to be flat runways and aprons of the Glenview Naval Air Station. When the Station was closed in 1993, 140-plus acres became available. Gallery Park is part of the result. The Park Trail is 1.8 miles; the Lake Trail is 1.5 miles; and the Lakeside Trail is also 1.5 miles -- but I avoid that one because of ticks. The trails all loop around beautiful Lake Glenview (built in 1998), with its bridge, piers, lilly pads, and islands. There's a fitness zone with equipment for ab crunches, cardio steps, chest presses, etc. There are tennis courts, catch-and-release fishing spots; soccer fields; and so on. You'll pass the Fountain Plaza; the Amphitheater; fields of clover, daisies, and other native plantings. There are benches, bike racks, water fountains, picnic tables, a children's garden.....and when you've had enough nature, the Glen is across the street for coffee or a meal.
