Galesburg Railroad Museum, Illinois, United States

Small but worth seeing if you can tour the train cars with a guide.
Museum is small and open limited hours but what makes it worthwhile are the people who work there who provide the tours of the railroad cars and tell the stories and history of railroad travel and the men and women who worked on the trains. We had an excellent guide who took us on the train cars and explained not only the mechanics of the train and equipment but personal stories and his own family history of what it was like to work on them. Inside a woman was telling stories about Abraham Lincoln and other people related to artifacts too. There were many people working because of the annual Railroad Days event we were attending. I would recommend this as a stop to make for train fans during this event.

Nice little museum.
I made a short stop at the museum for some pictures while heading through Galesburg. The main attraction is the 3006 engine, which is impressive. They also have a small assortment of train cars to see, including a Pullman and a caboose. There is another caboose across the street at the Kid's Museum that I walked over to for a couple pictures.

Mediocre Railroad Museum for a Railroad Town
Limited rolling stock and one stationary steam locomotive, small museum housed in former freight house (rebuilt?). Seeing actual trains including BNSF and Amtrak nearby was more fulfilling than this museum. There is a great Lincoln statue at the new Amtrak station next door (built to appear historic).
