Frank Fritz Finds, Illinois, United States

I would not put my name on this place

We looked for this place on main street and couldn't find it. Finally we noticed that we had to enter through a bar. It turns out that all of the windows were covered by pull down doors. The bartender went out after we left and opened them, and this was at 11:30am. Inside the bar it was dark and even darker inside the shop. It was very musty smelling and so dark it was hard to really see anything very good. I would not recommend this place at all.

    Interestingly rough around the edges!
Since we are fans of American Pickers, we had to make a stop at Frank Fritz's Finds just to check it out. This place is more for the hard-core Junk Shop shoppers. Be prepared to do a little "picking" of your own when you step into Frank's shop. Frank's shop is a combination bar and junk shop located in an old opera house. The employees that we interacted with were very nice and helpful. When you first enter the shop, you come into a good sized bar & grill area. This was well heated and a little dark. To enter the Antique/Junk shop you have to go around the bar and through a very unassuming door. Once inside the junk shop area, you will notice that the temperature of the room pretty much mimics the outside air temperature, so definitely dress accordingly! (We went on a cold winter day and it was pretty cold in the Antique/Junk room, I had to wear my heavy winter coat). The large, segmented room, was a little hard to maneuver around because it meanders all around piles and shelves of items that are for sale. The room smells like it is full of old, musty things because basically, it IS full of old, musty things! It was more of a picking adventure going to Frank Fritz's Finds, nothing like Antique Archaeology. But, there is a certain charm in digging through old items to find something that sparks your interest! If you find an item (or two) that you want to purchase, you need to bring it out to the bartender to pay for it. Not a problem for me and it just added to the very, very casual feel of the place. This place is not for everyone, but we had a good time patiently looking high and low for some thrifty bargains.
