Taking a memorable ride on a old trolly

For train lovers like me, riding on an old trolly is a trip down memory lane. The conductor, Jim gives you a history of the car while you enjoy the 30 minute ride to Blackhawk park & back. Course you can elect to get off and check out the park & pick it back up later. Just make sure you check with the conductor the time they return. Careful, last pickup is 4:30PM. The museum has a couple cars you can checkout like an old 1800's commuter & a IC caboose. Unfortunately, two dumb kids damaged a number of their cars causing over $150,000 damage. That's where you can help by showing up & supporting them. We will definitely come back!

Just Went to an Event here, can't speak to the Museum itself
Arrived for the June 11 "Rails to Victory" event. Signs for parking were inaccurate, so we spent time trying to decide where to put the car. As a result, we were almost late for the event sign-in. I brought the QR code, but there was no signage or people telling us where we go next, so I got in one line, when I should have been in another. They were giving out German passports (xeroxed) to help add to the feel of the event, but I didn't get one, because that happened in another line. A nice lady in front of us in line gave us blanks which she had with her, or we wouldn't have had as much fun or any paperwork for the German commander to stamp before we got on the trolley. Once on the trolley, we killed 2 wasps which were flying around the window in the back where we sat. Probably dangerous for those afraid of the insects, or allergic to stings. The reenactors on the trolley were interesting, but I'm glad I didn't pay extra for the VIP trip. $20 per was pretty steep for a ticket, esp. since no-one really checked it. It was 90 degrees, so we didn't stay to talk to the encampment folks, which would probably have made it more fun. But the noon day heat and the confusion/disorganization left a bad taste in my mouth, so I just wanted to leave and get something to eat. There were bottles of water given out on the trolley. I don't know if my ticket was good for Sunday's events, which might have made the $$ worth while. Wish this were run more like the Titanic Museum in the Ozarks!

you have to really like old trains to really enjoy this place
I appreciate what the volunteers are doing there. They offer a nice ride on the weekends during the season and around December also do the Polar Express gig for kids. If you don't like old electric trains, you will not be thrilled but it's still a fun thing to do with the kids of if you're bored and can't find anything better to do.
