    Extraordinary Man
I didn’t know anything about Charles Dawes before my recent trip to Evanston, but there are few men in American history who could claim a broader more diverse impact. From positions in the Treasury under McKinley to Brigadier General in WWI to Coolidge’s VP to the first Budget Director and eventual Noble Prize winner. This is a man and history worth learning about.

So who was Vice President Charles Gates Dawes anyway?
The Evanston History Center is housed in the former home of Charles Gates Dawes, 30th Vice President of USA under President Calvin Coolidge. The house is a wonderful example of the Châteauesque style. The historical exhibits showcase both Dawes and his family as well as the architecture and styles of the time period.
