Largest antique emporium I've ever seen
If you live in Chicago and you are spending a three-day getaway in Galena, you have to drive through the tiny hamlet of Elizabeth on Route 20. It's a bustling town with the Three Sisters Sweet Shoppe, Cajun Jack's Bar & Grill which is famous for its "Put some South in your Mouth" slogan, and the biggest attraction of all, Elizabeth's Grand Antique Company. Located at 300 North West Street, in the old high school building, on the west end of town, on Route 20, it is the largest antique emporium I have ever seen...three floors, gymnasium, classrooms, hundreds of vendors, thousands of books. Truth be told, my wife and I got lost. She went one way, I went another. It took us an hour to reunite. No exaggeration. There is so much to see. More of everything. The experience takes browsing to another level. Do you love books? This is a library unto itself. Books are stacked 20 feet high. You have to request a ladder to reach books on the highest shelves. Lots of pottery, kitchen ware, blankets, jewelry, clothing, glassware, musical recordings, magazines, even automobile parts. I can't think of anything that wasn't available, including some items I've never seen at other antique malls.

I go here to find gadgets I need
Love this place for gadgets and purposeful items I need and can pick up for less than retail. Yesterday my son found a small sifter hidden inside an old mailbox. Perfect for sifting confectioner's sugar for a bit of icing. Sitting on the kitchen windowsill with larger sifter and rolling pin. Useful nostalgia for 3 bucks.
