Eldon Hazlet State Park, Illinois, United States
4.5 (20 reviews) Spent Ranking #2 in Carlyle State Parks • Bodies of Water
The Largest Man-Made Lake in Illinois!
I went with my family to this beautiful state park and had a wonderful time. There are plenty of trails to go on, areas for families to fish and camp, and also a few beach locations. But BEWARE! Their beaches aren’t maintained often (probably due to the pandemic) and there are shards of glass everywhere. Don’t let this keep you away from having a great time however.

Lots of fishing on shore
Fished on 9/16 on way to St Louis. Really appreciated all the fishing you could do from the shoreline!! Found one spot where I was bringing in striped bass left & right!! Some lakes must assume everyone has a boat, this has plenty of places for those who don't have access to one.

Enjoyable little get-away
Cabin smelled clean and fresh when entering. Nice little cabin with good view. Bed was more comfortable than a lot of cabins we've stayed in at other places. Friendly welcome. The most annoying thing was that the chairs and footstools were screwed to the deck so they couldn't be moved. They are attached so close to the front edge of the deck that it appears to create a greater risk of potential injury which isn't good risk management, in my opinion. I think management should re-think that. Also makes it harder to use the chairs. Visited in the fall but would like to return in the summer to enjoy a different season there. Very nice park and accommodations. Was very satisfied overall.
