Persimmon Festival

Although we were a week early, we still got a sneak peek at the persimmons in the kitchen waiting to be squeezed into pulp.

    FABULOUS
This is a wonderful place to take your family to learn the history of our country, Illinois, and Christian County. There are many special events provided throughout the year. Prairie Days in April 6-7, 2019

So much to see in these historic buildings!!
We enjoyed looking through all the hidden treasures in the historic buildings (there are 5 fully furnished historic buildings on site, 1 museum and 1 multi-purpose building that also houses the Christian County Genealogy Society). It was pretty cool to walk in the historical courthouse that Abraham Lincoln practiced law in and Judge David Davis held court while they rode the Eighth Judicial Circuit. The John Canty Morrison House has an incredible clothing collection, gorgeous furnishings and some interesting stories. The Woodall Museum houses military, farming, schools and more from around Christian County. There is also the Buckeye Prairie Schoolhouse, Owaneco Train Depot, Bee Castle (no live bees), and the Log House (not a log cabin). They also have Persimmon Party in November each year, a Prairie Days weekend in September and April and lots of events through the year.
