A Gem in Mt. Vernon
Cedarhurst is an oasis in the lower half of Illinois and a perfect two hour stop for us on our way from Ohio to Missouri. They have a modest but outstanding art collection. Unlike many art museums with short descriptions of the artwork, each piece has a good description that provides additional context for the piece. A couple of temporary art exhibitions were also included, plus a fantastic art/play room for youngsters. Our six year old granddaughter loved it! Outside dozens of large sculptures placed on the property and an overcast sky made it possible to see most of them on a walking tour.

If you visit Jefferson County, be sure to find time to visit Cedarhurst Center for the Arts in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. There are many activities, and a museum. Cedarhurst Art Show is held every year around September or August. It is a very popular event drawing nationwide artists and venders.
