A Nice Tribute

This was worth the drive out of town. It was a nice tribute to a humble man. I remember him from Frosty the Snowman and Summer Magic. The statue in town was also nice.

    Thank you, Trip Advisor. Burl Ives was a part of our childhood and it was nice to see his tribute from the town where he was born. Thank you

    Grave and Monument to Burl Ives
    Burl Ives was born in this little town. He had a great voice and was in many plays and movies. The first movie was "Smoky", the book was a favorite before the movie for me. Burl attended Eastern Illinois University when it was a normal school, in Charleston. Legend there had it that he got caught climbing the wall of a girls dorm and was kicked out. The official and maybe true story is that during his junior year he just couldn't see the value in this sort of education and he just walked out. The most famous drop out of EIU. He was active with Boy Scouting, Free Masonry and much, much more. A great man arising from some pretty humble roots. Not much happening in Hunt City but they can sure be proud of Burl. Nearby Newton is trying to raise funds for a proper statue and monument.
