Mighty fountain with city skyline backdrop
Located in the heart of Grant Park, this is a huge fountain that puts on quite a spectacle every hour, sending up an enormous jet of water that must be one of the highest of any fountain I've ever seen. We found it quite pleasant to relax on one of the benches nearby, admiring the fountain and Chicago's skyline, which looms behind it. There's not much shade around, so you can feel a bit exposed here in warmer weather, but it's a good spot to enjoy a bit of people watching. We had fun watching a guy who was going up to tourists, offering to take their picture in front of the fountain, and then asking for money for the service - the range of reactions he got was very entertaining!

Stumbled Across a True Gem
On the tail end of our walking tour of the Loop, we wanted to finish up a little bit closer to the lake, and we kept walking towards some music that we were hearing in a nearby park. Little did we know that had stumbled across one of the largest fountains in the world, which at that moment, was in the middle of its hourly display. The highlight of this was the very-high central jet, along with an array of smaller jets flanking it. There were plenty of benches around the perimeter, and we treated ourselves to a memorable show.
