A Great Place to Visit...

Started in 1936, our historical society has grown from a group of passionate volunteers collecting artifacts to a three story museum in the heart of Belvidere. We work hard to preserve our county’s history for the next generation. We are continually holding events, lectures, and exhibit openings to educate the public on the intricate and exciting history of our community.

    Quite remarkable!
Having lived in Boone County my whole life I thought I knew pretty much all there was to know. Boy was I wrong. Just one short trip though the museum and I was amazed at all the new things I learned. Don’t miss this gem!

    Time Capsule of the Midwest
Boone County is a small town with a huge heart that contributes to the pulse of agricultural societies globally. Belvidere, with the mighty Kishwaukee River running through it, lies at the center of this picturesque prairie town that has seen its share of success and sorrow. All of this and more is among the thousands of archived items displayed at the museum and historical society, where a self-guided tour through time reveals both the primitive native and pioneering residents lives as well as those of the industrial era. You will learn much and if you aren’t from here, you may just decide to stay awhile.
