Birthplace of Ronald Reagan, Illinois, United States

WONDERFUL MUSEUM AND TOUR.

I made my way to the small town of Tampico just to visit the Birthplace of Ronald Reagan. Tampico is a very small town and I was able to find parking right in front of the First National Bank Building where President Reagan was born in the second floor apartment. The birthplace and museum are open Monday - Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday's 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable not only about President Reagan but also the other historic building of historical significance. After a guided tour of the museum and the bank we were escorted up stairs to the apartment where President Reagan was born. While not of the furniture is original to the Reagans, the apartment is furnished with period pieces making it appear much as it did when the Reagans lived here. The complete tour of the museum, bank and apartment took a little over an hour. It was a very interesting tour and I highly recommend it if you find yourself anywhere close to Tampico.

If you like President Reagan or U.S. presidential history you’ll absolutely love this place!
A must see for anyone that likes presidential history. The museum and store have a incredible array of memorabilia and information about the great President Ronald Reagan. I was extremely fortunate to have Mrs. Sharon Sumner guide me through the museum and the living quarters. Not only was she delightful, I really enjoyed her wit, charm, kindness and knowledge about the president and his family. I could’ve spent another couple of hours there just listening to her and the stories because she is that interesting. I think you will thoroughly enjoy the living quarters and the way they’ve restored it. Please note that the museum, store and living quarters are privately owned they are not subsidized by the government so please make a donation and or buy something from the store. We’re lucky that a gentleman from the Chicago area cares enough about history to fund this delightful venue.

    They did Dutch proud
My docent, Joan, was just splendid! She was extremely knowledgeable, took time to explain the history of the Reagan family, their life in Tampico, and the businesses around the birthplace. It is donation based for the tour, but well worth a decent one. They have a small gift shop in the museum next door to the birthplace - it is where you start. Parking is on site.
