Stand where Abraham Lincoln stood!

This is a MUST if you are in Mt. Vernon for a bit. I was surprised to find out the courthouse is still a working one. I am sure the employees feel as if they are in a fish bowl, but they do not seem to mind the tourists. The artifacts are amazing and the tour is free. Bring the kids for an educational and historical experience. Stand where Lincoln stood! How many people can say that?

    Neat history
Neat historical building where Abraham Lincoln fought a court case. Even my 3 year old had fun! Sit where the judges sit.

Historical? Yes, the Lincoln sculpture is there for a reason!
Back in the 1950's, we high schoolers related to this historical building, the Apellate Court building, more by it's property fence than its historical political debates! The beautiful wrought iron fencing suffered many "injuries" through the years from vehicles being driven by accident prone drivers! Main Street does start at the east end of town, but ends some 3 blocks just west of the downtown square rather abruptly. A bit of a deadend which a few drivers have not negotiate and hit that beautiful fencing! Nonetheless, it has survived the decades of wear and continues to be the grand entity. Another good reason to pause at the intersection of I-64 & I-57 in So. Illinois should you be passing by as not every town has an Appellate Court.
