The river is a dominant feature of the cityscape--a real focal point, and a good mode of transportation
In all our trips to Paris over the years, this is the first time that I have actually stepped onto one of the excursion boats! My wife has done a "dinning tour" on them, but I was not able to join her. We always seem to be short on time to do this boat trip, but we purchased tickets in advance (through TA) and used it as our taxi to get around the city. We were very pleased with the convenience of it and the ease of use. We will do it again on our next trip here! The big positive feature of the boats is that they allow you to see a lot of the architecture on the river from a totally different perspective than you get on the street level. Since you are not "dodging traffic or jostling for position" as you are on the sidewalk, you get to see the buildings slowly float by you so that you can really appreciate the architecture and the beauty of them. Alos, you get to see the the amazing bridges "up close" to admire the sculptures, lights and engineering. The boars are very clean and the staff is attentive. The stops are well selected and allow you to get to venues far easier/faster than by walking and far cheaper than by cab. The only downside is that there are many stairs to navigate, and it may not be a good option for anyone with physical limitations. To avoid lines, make certain you have a ticket in advance and that you NOT LOOSE IT! There are no replacement options!

river boat cruise
we went for the seine river cruise which we bought together with the toot toot bus tour. It was nice as the sun was setting. Most of the people weren't listening to the audio guide. Sit at the top deck for a better view.
