how to beat the queues

Musée d'Orsay in Paris is a must-visit for art lovers and travelers alike. It's famous for its impressive collection of Impressionist and post-Impressionist art, making it one of the largest in the world. Housed in a stunning former railway station on the Seine, the museum is just as beautiful on the outside as it is on the inside. Don't miss the famous clock face, which is part of the museum's exhibition. For an in-depth experience, you might want to join a private or group tour. Visit in the morning to beat the crowds and enjoy a quieter museum experience. – Tripadvisor

Impressionism is the highlight of the museum - gorgeous architecture and wonderful experience.
I stood in line for the free entry for EU residents on a Friday when they actually open at 9:45, not 9:30 am. The line was quite long as you have to go through security, so I waited for about an hour. I would recommend you go straight up to the fifth floor to see the Impressionism & Neo-Impressionism exhibits first. They tend to get extremely busy so go enjoy that first (there's a gift shop at the end of that specific exhibition) and then make your way down the rest of the floors. T The Impressionism exhibit is gorgeous, they have about 10 Van Gogh works that are just incredible to see in person, along with many other famous Impressionists, including female impressionist painters, which is rare to see exhibited. The architecture of the building is incredible, as the old train station in Paris, the museum has kept its original structure and it perfectly adds to the artistic space. I would have spent another three hours there, but I had reservations for another museum in the afternoon.

    how to beat the queues
Musée d'Orsay is one of the busiest and most visited museums in the world, so it is advisable to make advance online bookings BOTH for the regular collection and temporary exhibits. We did this for the current - very good - Edvard Munch exhibit. With the priority access/entrance ticket (download on your mobile phone or print out), you'll have to hit the priority access lane. You basically cut waiting time by 4or 5 (we waited 5 minutes to get in, whereas the 'normal' queue was about 40-45 mins). Ditto for the entrance to the temporary exhibit. The permanent collection of impressionists on the 5th floor and the rooms with van Gogh and Gauguin paintings will always be crowded so try to sneak in when most visitors have lunch....
