STILL A MONUMENTAL EXTERIOR

The iconic Notre Dame Cathedral Paris—meaning ‘Our Lady of Paris’—is a masterpiece of French Gothic architecture. Built back in the 12th century, the important monument has witnessed many historical events. It has also inspired Victor Hugo’s story of the Hunchback of Notre-Dame. Outside the cathedral, you can admire its grand exterior which is framed by an elegant pair of bell towers, stained glass windows and an ornately decorated facade with grand statues. You can also enter the cathedral for a small entrance fee to view Nio-Gothic artwork and furniture as well as join their weekly sessions. – Tripadvisor

    Gotta See It
Even with the horrific fire damage, this is simply a "must see" if you visit Paris. You cannot access the interior while they clean up from the fire, but you can still admire this amazing, historic cathedral from a short distance away. Be prepared for large crowds and give yourself ample time to walk around the structure and take in its eternal beauty. You may be fortunate to encounter a dancing musician as we did, which only adds to the sweet music of this special place. Numerous shops and restaurants are close by so plan to spend some time here during your Paris visit.

    Currently closed for reconstruction
Widely popularized by Victor Hugo’s The Hunchback of Notre-Dame which has been made into an animated movie, this cathedral basically dominates the skyline in Ile de la Cite island. Even the fire that engulfed the Notre-Dame in 2019 was not enough to destroy this famous cathedral, a testament to the strength and durability of its 12th to 14th century construction. The church is currently closed to the public as it undergoes a major reconstruction, but visitors can still admire its exterior and read about the aftermath salvaging process on the boards set up along its perimeter. Paris Pass holders can sign up for the Notre Dame Outdoor Walking Tour for an interesting history of the cathedral and its surrounding buildings, most of which dates back at least 700 years to the medieval era.
