Choose the best season!

I paid my visit by the end of March, when was not many tourists. I was the only one on the cable car. To be honest, I felt quite scary, when seeing all empty cabins around me. I tried to focus on taking photos to ignore my fear. The view was fantastic!! Be aware that the entrance for cable car is not the same entrance for hikers. I was lost when I came down on foot. But luckily I hire a car with chauffeur and he knew where I would came out. The mountains were still covered by the snow, with the green pine trees. I’d say this is the best season for visiting Mount Heng. It was very quiet. You might be the only one visitor. It was a bit raining, so the steps were very slippery. I fell down on a quite steep road. According to Taoist culture, the stairs to the temple are long and steep! So be careful in a rainy day.

Lots of steps, but it's worth it!
We didn't know anything about the mountain, but it was part of the trip to the Hanging Temple our hostel in Datong helped us arrange, but it is definitely worth combining it with a trip to the temple! There are a lot of steps up the mountain, but you can stop to explore the different temples along the way. The views from the top are incredible. Entrance fee isn't expensive either (compared to the other attractions near Datong) - around £1.60

    Nice hike, nice views
Hengshan is one of the 5 sacred Daoist mountains. It is the northern peak of the 5 (bei yue). Its peak is at 2,017 meters and it is really close to the more famous Hanging Monastery. You can do both in one day. I was staying at Datong and took a minibus early in the morning. After visiting the Monastery I headed to the mountain. The hike is smooth and quick. There aren't any major difficulties and you get to see some nice views of the surroundings. It took me around 90 minutes until I reach the top.
