Beautiful homes Twickenham district Huntsville, AL

The Twickenham district was a real treat. Some of the homes really stand out, like the Leroy Pope mansion on Echols ave. SE. As KPix88 mentioned there is a downloadable guide of the district. The guide has an audio component as well as visual aids on screen. One can walk or bike the area and see these beautiful old homes.

    Impressive Neighborhood.
    A walk or drive around Twickenham is very impressive. Caution, the location on TA's map is WRONG! I tried to correct it but... Historic neighborhood w/ antebellum houses. Get walking map @ Tourist information. Twickenham covers 13 blocks between downtown and the Maple Hill Cemetery. The biggest concentration of houses are in the block defined by Adams St SE, Franklin St SE, Cruse Alley and Williams Ave. For the center of a city, the size of some of the lots is amazing!

    Brochure at the visitor’s center (and discounts for museums, too)
    Stop and get the brochure (or download the free walking tour) at the visitor’s center at 500 Church St. The blocks are pretty big so you might want to move your car between the Twickenham, Old Town, and Five Points areas if you lack stamina or time. A variety of styles is represented and the landscaping for most homes is outstanding. The visitor’s center also has discount coupons for the Weeden house, the Museum of Art, the Botanical Garden, the US Space Museum, and other sites!
