Renamed Southern Great Wall now. The stairs are no joke. Beautiful and fun place.
The photo shows Fenghuang, which is wrong. We decided to take some time off Fenghuang to come here since we already traveled so far south, why not see the Southern Great Wall? Besides, my friends aren't going to Beijing so this was a good substitute to the Northern Great Wall. This place has a huge chessboard, largest in the world perhaps? It was once used as a venue for an organized chess tournament of sorts. You can find the statues of the players and a large bust of the ultimate winner. There is also a large Guanyu's seat and Sabre along with a few Kungfu fighters' statues on the chessboard area. Some had been partially destroyed like many other relics in China. This place isn't commercialized like Fenghuang. The shops do not overcharge or tout. Imagine climbing all the way up the stairs just to find an old lady up there with a large icebox containing cold drinks selling for only 3CNY as compared to usual touristy places where they sold for 15CNY? They had to climb up the stairs everyday with a heavy load just to make a living. I bought extra from her even though we had enough water already. Take a look at the photos and you can see how tall the stairway up the wall is. The view up there is pretty nice and standard. It has some cannons, and a pictorial view of the surroundings. Parts of the wall were damaged and parts were rebuilt. So it doesn't connect with the other parts of the great wall anymore. Pretty straight forward place. Don't need a guide. But a driver is recommended since it is a good 6hr drive from the general Zhangjiajie area. Recommended to go from Tongren airport instead, then you can visit this along with Fenghuang, Dehang and Aizhai. Might be faster and cheaper? Do let me know if you need recommendations or advices.

spectacular view!
This is considered a part of the great wall of china. most of it has been rebuilt after it has been destroyed but you can still see some ancient parts of it. It's a very small part but has an amazing view. if you looking to take nice pictures of yourself standing on the wall just go there. worth visiting to take pictures and enjoy the river, mountains and the small town downhill view !
