Nice Day trip

This makes a very nice day out or half day depending on your timing. There is a large car park at the entrance along with a visitors centre and public rest rooms. The walk is partly a track and partly a boardwalk through the swamp/ marshes. You can walk all the way to the lake or a short loop to the large pond. You can see birdlife though its get a little busy on the weekends in season. THe cafe at the visitors centre serves up decent meals and occasionally they have some market stalls in the carpark.

    Definitely worth a visit
At the car park, there is a café cum souvenir shop where you can get a brochure with map of the marsh. Drinks, food and sweets are served. Follow the board walk all the way up and then down to the marsh; no need to worry about getting your shoes wet as the boardwalk is all the way. Near the top, you can get glimpses of the surrounding area. Expect strong wind too. In late Sep, we could see the beautiful autumn colours appearing among the foliage and the waterways. We also experienced small hailstones. Enjoyed the experience.

    Easy, beautiful hike
The walk to Shinsennuma marsh is lovely and filled with greenery in summer. The path is covered throughout, and while there are spots where the planks have come loose or are starting to rot (they are wooden planks having to withstand four seaons of weather changes after all), it is generally in good quality. There are paths where nature makes the walk a bit of an obstacle course, when you have to squeeze through or duck in between branches, but I didn't mind it at all and enjoyed the experience. The view leading up to the actual marsh is beautiful too, and if I'd been there earlier and it hadn't started to drizzle down, I would have loved to just stay still there for awhile and soak in the atmosphere. Note though the rest stop in the parking area seems closed for renovation at the moment. There was no access to the bathroom when we went.
